Sazan Island

Former military island at the bay's mouth

Vlorë, Vlorë County

About

Sazan is Albania's largest island, guarding the entrance to the Bay of Vlorë in the Strait of Otranto. Long a closed military base, it opened to the public in 2015 and now draws visitors to its abandoned bunkers, tunnels and crystal-clear coves. Together with the Karaburun Peninsula it forms a protected national marine park, visited by boat tour from Vlorë.
