Përmet, Vjosa Valley

About

Gliko is a traditional whole-fruit spoon preserve from Përmet in the Vjosa Valley, recognised as a Slow Food Presidium. Fruits or vegetables such as white cherries, wild figs, quince, walnuts and watermelon rind are slowly boiled with sugar in copper pots until they absorb the syrup. It is offered to guests with a glass of cold water as a gesture of welcome.
