About
Kaninë Castle rises on the slope of Shushicë Mountain above Vlorë, with origins as an Amantes settlement in the 3rd century BC. The Byzantines transformed it into a castle town and rebuilt it under Justinian I in the 6th century. It later served the Angevin Kingdom and the Principality of Vlorë before falling to the Ottomans in 1417.
