Lin Village, Lake Ohrid

Lakeside village with ancient mosaics

Lin, Pogradec, Albania

About

Lin is a tranquil village on a small peninsula jutting into Lake Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage lake on the border with North Macedonia. On the hilltop sit the floor mosaics of an Early Christian basilica from the 6th century, among the largest Byzantine mosaics in the Balkans, viewable in summer. Underwater excavations nearby have revealed a prehistoric stilt settlement thought to be among Europe's oldest.
