Blloku District, Tirana

Tirana's trendy nightlife and cafe quarter

Tirana, Albania

About

Once the sealed-off residential enclave of Albania's communist elite, including dictator Enver Hoxha's villa, Blloku was strictly off-limits to ordinary citizens until 1991. Today it is Tirana's liveliest district, packed with boutiques, cocktail bars, cafes and restaurants. The transformation from forbidden zone to cosmopolitan heart symbolizes the country's opening to the world.
