Restored 18th-century Ottoman stone footbridge

Tirana, Albania

About

The Tanners' Bridge is an 18th-century Ottoman stone footbridge near the former Tanners' Mosque, once part of the Saint George Road linking Tirana with the eastern highlands. Just eight meters long with a main arch and two side arches, it served farmers bringing livestock into the city until the Lanë stream was diverted in the 1930s. Cleaned and restored in the 1990s, it is now a protected heritage monument.

This 18th-century Ottoman stone footbridge takes its name from the tanners (tabakë) who once worked nearby; it crossed the Lana river along the old Saint George Road until the stream was diverted in the 20th century.
