Lurë Glacial Lakes

Frozen lakes on a snowbound plateau

Lurë, Dibër County

About

Lurë, part of the Lurë–Dejë Mountain National Park in northeastern Albania, holds one of the highest concentrations of glacial lakes in the Balkans. In winter heavy snow blankets the plateau from November to April and the lakes freeze solid, with snow depths reaching two to three metres. The quiet, bright landscape is ideal for snowshoeing and low-traffic winter hikes.
