Privacy Policy

Discover Albania is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at any time through the Contact page.

When you create an account we store your email address, the name you enter, your preferred language, an optional profile photo and the date you joined. Passwords are handled by our sign-in service and stored only as secure hashes — we never see them. Profile photos are stored at a public link so they can be shown in the app.

If you sign in, we store your saved places, the trip guides you create or copy, and your notifications. Guides are private unless you choose to make one public; public guides can be viewed and copied by anyone.

Your browser keeps your language choice (also in a small cookie so pages open in your language), your sign-in session, your recent searches and app preferences, and temporary navigation and draft data, such as a trip you are planning. The app may cache pages, images and map tiles so it loads faster and works offline. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

The map’s locate button asks your browser for your position only when you tap it. It is used on your device to centre the map and is never sent to or stored on our servers. Like any online map, the tiles for the area you view are downloaded from our map provider.

These providers help us run Discover Albania. They receive only what they need — including your IP address when your browser contacts them:

• Our backend (database, sign-in and file storage, built on Supabase and operated by us): your account, saved items and profile photo.
• Vercel: hosts the website and measures anonymous page views and page speed (Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which do not use cookies).
• CARTO and OpenStreetMap: provide the map tiles.
• Open-Meteo: provides weather forecasts. Only coordinates of places in Albania are sent, never your location.
• Unsplash: serves many of the destination photos.

To provide your account and the features you ask for (our agreement with you); to keep the service secure, fix errors and understand overall usage in aggregate (our legitimate interests); and to use your location when you ask the map to find you (your consent, which you can withdraw in your browser settings). We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

We keep your account data and saved items for as long as you have an account. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile, profile photo, saved places, guides and notifications within one month. Error reports are deleted automatically after the limited period set by our monitoring provider.

You can change your name and language in your profile at any time. You also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to ask us to correct or delete it — including deleting your account — or to object to how we use it. Our mailbox for these requests isn’t available right now; please check back soon. You may also complain to your data protection authority; in Albania this is the Information and Data Protection Commissioner.

Discover Albania is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
